Driving Instructors Driving Test Pass Rates, Grades, and Price
Pass rates, grades, and price are not good things to judge an instructor by because.
For
example:
Instructor (A) lives in Kensington where money is no object and pupils don`t care
how many lessons they do to pass the test.
Therefore instructor (A)`s test rate is 85%.
Instructor (B) lives in a poor area (pupils try and do the minimum amount of lessons
possible in-
Instructor (B)`s pass
rate is therefore
Instructor (C) only cares about making money, does not care if you learn anything,
and has a pass rate of 40%, but when pupils call him, he says
"my pass rate is 90% and if you pay up front, I will give you a cheap deal, I can fit you in tomorrow if you act now!"
You will not know if what he says is the truth, because due to the Data Protection
Act, the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) cannot give out personal information.
My pass rate is probably around 70% but you will have to take my word for that!
Also, what if you are one of the 30% that fails, does it matter to you that 70% passed?
Which instructor would you choose, one that works hard, one that will get good results
anyway, or one that lied about his test rate?
How will you know the difference?
The average driving test centre overall pass rate is around 45% with first time pass rates at around 25%, so if you want to increase your chances of passing first time, use a good instructor. Look at the How to Find a Good Instructor page
Grades:
Grades are only assessed on the performance of the instructor on their check test.
Because I also get nervous I got a grade 4.
Price:
With price, paying more may not automatically get you a better instructor.
One of my pupils said I was better than the AA instructor they had before even though
they were paying £7/hour extra for him!
ABS charge £20/hour for manual lessons.
But remember, if you pay PEANUTS, you will probably get a MONKEY!
(No offence to monkeys!)
Other things to look for are membership to local instructor associations
(ABS belong to AHDI Harrow and WADDIA Watford)
Does the instructor give extra learning material like notes to help with lessons?
Is their instructors badge valid (if not they are illegal and you are not insured
if you have an accident)
An unregistered "instructor" could be a convicted rapist or murderer!
Im not by the way!!
Although I did get that parking ticket -
Also, all registered instructors by law are CRB checked.
