You can make an application for a provisional driving licence 2 months before your 17th Birthday.
The cost for a provisional driving licence is £50.00. You must not drive on the road
until you have the provisional licence in your possession and you must wait until
your 17th birthday. (16th if registered disabled-
Apply online for a first provisional licence
You can make an application for your first British provisional driving licence online if you:
- are a resident of Great Britain
- are 16 yrs 10 months of age
- can meet the minimum eyesight requirement
- are currently not prevented from driving for any reason
- can pay £50.00 by Mastercard, Visa, Maestro, Electron, Delta or Solo debit or credit card
- have a valid UK passport or another form of identity
can provide addresses of where you have lived over the last three years

To get a provisional driving licence, complete the D1 application form that is available from the DVLA form ordering service or Post Office® branches. You will also need to enclose original documentation confirming your identity, a passport style colour photograph and the provisional driving licence fee of £50.00. Send your completed application and payment to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD or you may be able to use the premium checking service.
It is advised by the DSA to start your lessons before you do the Theory Test.

It is best to book your lessons 2 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.
*Only one free hour per qualifying pupil.
*Promotional Driving Lessons must be taken in 1 lot of 2 hours.
